Each year, a tree is meticulously selected – often a grand Norway spruce or similar species – and generously donated by a family or property owner, with the Rockefeller Center owners graciously covering the substantial transportation costs involved in bringing such a colossal specimen to its prominent position in Midtown Manhattan. The selection process itself is a closely guarded secret and a source of annual anticipation.

The year of our visit featured a truly impressive 72-foot-tall Norway spruce! This massive 12-ton tree was proudly sourced from Walkill, New York, embodying a piece of local heritage and the beauty of the region. Once standing tall, it is meticulously adorned with over 50,000 multi-colored LED lights, strung along miles of wire, creating a breathtaking cascade of shimmering brilliance that illuminates the entire plaza. Topping this natural marvel is a brand-new, exquisitely designed Swarovski crystal star, weighing a remarkable 90 pounds and comprised of an astonishing 3 million crystals. This dazzling star, a masterpiece in its own right, adds an unparalleled sparkle that can be seen from blocks away, completing the tree’s iconic silhouette and marking it as a true holiday landmark. The tree truly embodies the spirit of Christmas, drawing gasps of awe and inspiring countless holiday dreams.
